More information is emerging about what led to Zac Efron’s hospital visit.
Days after it was reported that the High School Musical alum was hospitalized in Ibiza following a swimming incident August 2, multiple outlets have reported that Zac ingested water when his chest hit the bottom of the pool after his dive and that security staff at the villa he was staying in pulled him out of the water after he showed signs of distress.
The 36-year-old was taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution after appearing temporarily dazed, and while there received x-rays to confirm no water remained in his lungs, according to the outlets. He was reportedly medically cleared within hours, however he remained at the hospital to avoid paparazzi who had followed him there.
E! News has reached out for Zac’s rep for comment but has not yet heard back.
And while Zac himself hasn’t elaborated on the specifics of the incident, he did make sure to confirm his wellbeing for fans.
"Happy and healthy," the Iron Claw star wrote on his Instagram Story Aug. 4, sharing a photo of himself lifting a pair of weights while lying shirtless in a pair of swimming trunks on an exercise ball. "Thanks for the well wishes."
Zac’s friend Caleb Davidge also shared an update on the actor, posting a selfie of the pair standing shirtless at the same location alongside two weightlifter emojis.
The incident occurred almost a month into Zac’s time on the Spanish island, having been in Ibiza since July. The actor from A Family Affair joined a group of friends on a yacht off the coast of the neighboring island of Formentera, as seen in photos posted by the Spanish outlet Diario de Ibiza.
Amid his time in Europe, Zac also enjoyed time on the Greek island of Mykonos—where he visited the Lío Mykonos restaurant and cabaret club and took a photo with its performers—and even attended the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.
In addition to taking in the Games’ official start, he also cheered on Team USA at many events, including gymnastics.
In fact, after Simone Biles and the rest of the American delegation earned gold at the team all-around finals, Zac wrote on his Instagram Story, “So incredibly proud of you @simonebiles."
